Turkana discoveries: Oil and now Water.

Source: schasia@gmail.com
Yesterday, residents of Turkana county in the northern part of Kenya, woke up to yet another good news. A huge underground acquifer had just been discovered with a potential to supply water in the country for several decades. The survey and subsequent drilling was conducted by Radar Technologies International using the WATEX (Water Explorations) technology- a proprietary technology that prospects and explores sub-surface water, soils and geology to enhance and support hydrogeological surveys with increased precision. A lot of the previous geophysical surveys conducted  lacked the precision compared to the more sophisticated radar satellite technology with the ability to map acquifers from 100 to 4,000 meters beneath the earth. Drilling boreholes cost a fortune and cases of dry boreholes have been reported leading to loss of millions of shillings.
The work was spearheaded by UNESCO in collaboration with the Kenyan government. The discovery has raised a lot of interest to a region that received, at best, lip service from successive governments in Kenya.
This news comes in the wake of yet another big discovery of oil that occurred recently conducted by Tullow Oil whose economic viability is significant.
